About the Author

Erik Stenstadvold is a guitar historian who specializes in nineteenth-century guitar music and its performance practices. His publications include the three-volume critical edition of Lhoyer’s Collected Guitar Duos (Chanterelle, 2008), the Collected Guitar Studies by Leonard Schulz (Chanterelle, 2011) and Six Exercices, op. 27, by Antoine de Lhoyer (Guitar Heritage, 2019). His articles have appeared in journals such as Notes, Soundboard, Soundboard Scholar, Classical Guitar, Early Music, Nineteenth-Century Music Review, Il Fronimo, and Roseta. His Annotated Bibliography of Guitar Methods, 1760–1860 (Pendragon Press, 2010) has become a standard reference work on early guitar tutors. As a performer on period guitars, he has recorded several CDs devoted to early nineteenth-century music. He is Professor Emeritus at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo, and a member of the Consortium for Guitar Research at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, UK.
