Distinguished Service Award 2012 - Carol Sanders
Share |

In 2002, then-President David Grimes asked GFA Board members if they knew anyone who could assist setting up a new bookkeeping system for the organization.

Carol Sanders, Accounts Payable manager for a manufacturing company and former musicians’ agent/manager, was "volunteered” by her husband, board member, Jack Sanders, as he knew she worked with accounting software.   In 2004, the new President (and current Artistic Director) Brian Head, asked her to be the GFA’s treasurer, since, he noted, she was already doing the work and might as well have the title.

Carol worked tirelessly with GFA staff and leadership, serving in a critical advisory capacity, guiding the organization through an upgrade in not only accounting systems, but general business practices.  The financial health and stability of the organization increased exponentially due to Carol's attention to detail well beyond the capacity of her role as Treasurer, including contributions in development and infrastructure, and mentoring staff members.  Carol served on the Executive Committee for the organization, and was at the heart of many changes that were part of the growth of the GFA.  Carol's final official act for GFA was enlisting the highly skilled new treasurer, Pam Gerken, to come aboard.  However, Carol's devotion to the organization remains strong, and she will remain a part of the GFA family in perpetuity.
