The leadership of the GFA is the responsibility of two organizational bodies; the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees.  The Executive Committee is responsible for the business decisions for the organization, while the Board of Trustees concerns itself with artistic concerns and visionary ideas.  The membership of the GFA elects members of the Board of Trustees, and the Board of Trustees selects the Executive Committee and its chairperson.

The GFA staff carries out the work of the organization, including membership administration, convention preparation and on-site management, journal editing and production, and other programs and services.
