2024 Convention & Competitions

Traveling to Fullerton

GROUND TRANSPORTATION FROM LAX

Taxi/Rideshare: Visit LAXit for a quick tutorial about how the rideshare area works at LAX. Rideshares average $75 plus tip; Taxis average $100 plus tip, with both increasing at peak traffic times.

Shuttles: PrimeTime Shuttle is quoting $65 as of June 8 (must reserve in advance for this price).

Train: It is difficult and time consuming (requiring several changes of train/bus and nearly 3 hours) to arrive by public transportation. For the brave traveler, you can find directions here.

The university offers daily and hourly parking via the ParkMobile app, currently listed at $10/day. Be sure to download the app in advance to ease your arrival. The resident lots by the dorms are not accessible with ParkMobile, you’ll need to park in the general student lots and structures. The closest lot to the School of Music is the Nutwood Parking Structure; the closest lot to the dorms is the Eastside South Parking Structure. Please do not use the Eastside North parking structure. See the campus map for your options.

Nine generations of string manufacturing expertise are built on ambition, drive to reach perfection, perseverance, and innovation, all wrapped around the passion and love for music and the classical guitar. More than three hundred years ago the D´Addario family started making strings in the Abruzzo mountains of Italy. Centuries of development, challenges, technology, and research played their role in establishing D´Addario as the leading brand in the manufacturing of strings and accessories they are today. The best materials, the process, the history, and tips for choosing the right strings and accessories for your guitar – you can hear them all in the presentation D´Addario – A History of String Manufacturing

GFA Community Guitar Orchestra

Chuck Hulihan, conductor
CSUF Fullerton, CA
Thursday June 20-Saturday June 22

Contact Chuck Hulihan at chulihan@guitarfoundation.org

We will perform a short set of dances from the Terpsichore collection of Michael Praetorius, as arranged by the late, great David Grimes, who not only led the program for many years at CalState Fullerton, but was one of the true pioneers and champions of guitar orchestra playing. David passed away in 2021 and leaves a strong legacy in his many students and scores.

Folds, by popular steel string guitarist, LA-area musician, and frequent GFA staff contributor in so many ways, Ryan Ayers. Originally written for solo guitar, transformed into a guitar ensemble score, It's a fun, modern score that plays with pulse and groove and has hints of Michael Hedges. Ryan will come work with us and be in attendance for our performance, he has just finished re-engraving the parts for this performance.
