A Message from the President

On behalf of all of us at the Guitar Foundation of America, I would like to extend a sincere apology for delays in Tengyue (TY) Zhang’s 2018 - 2019 concert tour.  Excessive and unusual delays in the processing of his O1B visa was our first obstacle. With the support of a caseworker from Congressman Ted Lieu’s office, we were able to push TY’s case through. However, upon receipt of the visa, we learned that visa reciprocity between the United States and China would only allow for a single entry to the US. In order to keep his concerts abroad and maximize the duration of his stay in the U.S., we are rescheduling all early fall US tour dates to the spring portion of his tour, and also endeavoring to reschedule Canadian concerts to a block at the end of the tour.

Unfortunately immigration law is a constantly moving target, and winners of different nationalities, along with global politics, make each year a radically different challenge. I assure you that we will be examining how we can better respond to those challenges in the coming years.

We are incredibly fortunate that the vast majority of the presenters from the fall portion of the tour have already rescheduled concerts for the spring. As of this writing, only two US presenters were unable to accommodate TY at a later date. We are so very grateful to our wonderful presenters. Their dedication to the concept of the tour and their support of this wonderful young artist are appreciated by us all.

I invite you to follow us on social media and on TY’s tour page as we adjust his schedule in the coming weeks. You can find his schedule at: https://www.guitarfoundation.org/page/TYtour

Throughout this experience, TY has remained incredibly professional and responsive, and I want to make very clear that all of this was 100% beyond his control. TY’s first U.S. concert will be in Portland, OR on December 1st and we hope you will join us in warmly welcoming him to this tour, which he worked so hard to earn. Thank you for your patience and support during this time. It is our priority to do right by TY and to allow him to inspire the minds, hearts and fingers of our community with his powerful artistry on tour.

Sincerely,
Martha Masters, President
