The Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition took place from June 20-25, 2014. Over 60 competitors from across the globe traveled to the campus of Cal State Fullerton to compete for the prestigious 1st Prize of a 50-city North American concert tour, along with recordings with Naxos and GHA Records, a Mel Bay publication, Karura guitar case, and various prizes from Augustine, D’Addario, Editions Orphee, GSP, and Savarez.

The preliminary round jury included Randall Avers, Bryan Johanson, Irina Kulikova, Alberto Mesirca, and Micaela Pittaluga. Lucinda Carver, John Dearman, Marcelo Kayath, Wojciech Kocyan, David Tanenbaum, Steven Thachuk, and Andrew York judged the semifinal and final rounds of the competition. Competitors performed this year’s set piece, Evocation after ‘Gold are my flowers’ by Curtis Curtis-Smith in the preliminary and final rounds of the competition, and played the required piece, Brouwer’s Tres Apuntes, in the semifinals along with their free choice program.

The final round of the competition was held on June 25, 2014 at 6:30pm in Meng Hall at Cal State Fullerton. This round of the competition was not only open to the public, but webcast live for the first time. The competition results were: 1st Prize - Ekachai Jearakul (Thailand), 2nd Prize - Thomas Csaba (France), 3rd Prize - Jérémy Peret (France), 4th Prize - Celil Refik Kaya (Turkey).

It was a great competition. Thanks for live streaming it. It was great being able to watch and hear the competition even though it was late here on the east coast. Thank you GFA.
