Born in Scotland and raised in Spain, the Grammy Award-winning David Russell offers an evening of great guitar music at 92Y.“One of the greats in the guitar world. His musicianship and skill are second to none.”—Classical Guitar
He was born in Glasgow and grew up in Menorca. That unique mix of Scottish nature and Spanish nurture has made David Russell one of today’s most celebrated classical guitarists. His Bach is considered definitive, yet his programs span centuries and continents. For his latest visit to 92Y he brings a new work dedicated to him by Welsh composer Stephen Goss, a professor of guitar at the Royal Academy of Music, London.

MOMPOU: Suite compostelana
STEPHEN GOSS: Cantigas de Santiago (dedicated to David and María Russell; New York premiere)
J.S. BACH: Partita No. 1, BWV 825 (transcribed by Gerhard Reichenbach)
