The Music Department at North Carolina State University is pleased to announce an expansion of our Arts Entrepreneurship program. This summer – 2013 – we are launching a Music Entrepreneurship Certificate Bootcamp for both undergraduate and graduate music students. This ten (10) week hybrid residency / online program arms participants with both the skills and materials they need to achieve their entrepreneurial goals.

During the Summer I month-long residency, students take three courses where they develop a business plan, marketing strategy and map the first five years of their entrepreneurial career around the arts economy they intend to target. After the residency, participants return home and enroll in a five-week online mentoring course during Summer II where they can execute the initial stages of their entrepreneurial career under the guidance of our instructors. This is the only arts or music entrepreneurship program in the nation that provides students a holistic arts entrepreneurship training experience based on the Entrepreneurial Ecology of the Artscurriculum and arts business strategy.

Certificate Program

The Music Entrepreneurship Bootcamp equips emerging professional musicians with the intellectual and entrepreneurial skills that will – when coupled with one’s arts training – empower participants to forge a fulfilling musical career customized to their professional goals. Upon completion of the program, students can confidently direct, plan and execute their musical career.

During the program, participants will:
  • establish a customized entrepreneurial music venture tailored to their specific professional goals
  • develop a business plan and marketing strategy in support of these goals
  • acquire knowledge of arts specific decision making and strategy
  • apply new knowledge towards your chosen venture
  • experience sustained guidance and mentorship

Who Should Attend

Though the Bootcamp targets applied students, those interested in Music Business, Music Technology or even Arts Administration should consider this Summer 2013 program. Since our curriculum addresses both the for- and non-profit side of the arts, we can accommodate almost any arts or arts-related student trajectory.
