What are GFA Certification Standards?

See GFA Certification Standards

What type of program are we looking for?

Successful programs should include varied styles within their curriculum. To meet certification, a standard of classical guitar education is required, demonstrated in the application.

How long does a certification last?

3 years. Every third year an updated application is required along with an application fee.

What will the program receive with an award of certification?

  1. The program will receive an official certificate from the GFA attesting to the level of excellent guitar education achieved.

  2. The program will be added to a public list of certified schools maintained on the GFA website.

  3. Program Director will be invited to various leadership opportunities sponsored by the GFA.

If your application is not awarded certification:

GFA Certification is not guaranteed to any applicant. If certification is not granted, applicants will be offered guidance and recommendations to reach certification in the future. Pending missing criteria, temporary certification will be offered, or an invitation to re-apply after recommendations have been met.

What are the conditions for being granted temporary certification?

GFA has determined that certification can be met within one calendar year from the date of the temporary certification award with guidance from the GFA Education Director.

Can schools get a site visit from the GFA Education Director?

Yes, upon request, for an extra fee. The school must pay travel expenses plus a $500 consultant fee.

What do we offer to a program after an offer to re-apply?

If available, we will offer them community support by connecting them with GFA members and resources in their community. We will offer them examples of successful applicants.
