The Guitar Foundation of America has been committed to the classical guitar community as the preeminent non-profit organization dedicated to our instrument since its inception in 1973. In order to continue serving our mission, GFA will be raising membership dues on September 1, 2015. Your membership with GFA supports events like our annual convention, competitions, and Regional Symposia. It also helps us provide the most current resources for educators, maintain the GFA research archives, and deliver Soundboard magazine to your mailbox every quarter. An additional publication is being launched this summer - the long-awaited Soundboard Scholar peer-reviewed journal will be distributed annually to all GFA members in addition to our regular Soundboard quarterly magazine.
Your membership dues support GFA’s continual efforts to further opportunities for classical guitar and its music. This past year brought new projects to GFA as well as the expansion of existing programs:
GFA co-commissioned a new guitar concerto by Sérgio Assad, and held its world premiere featuring Pablo Sainz Villegas with full orchestra at our 2015 Convention in Oklahoma City
Carlos Barbosa-Lima, the Assad Brothers, and Kenny Hill were honored in the GFA Hall of Fame
GFA expanded the educational resources for teachers and students on our website and inaugurated the first GFA guitar teacher training seminar
GFA held Regional Symposia in New York City, Las Vegas, and Winston-Salem, which were filled with enthusiastic guitar students and teachers receiving individual adjudications and playing in guitar orchestra together
Anton Baranov, our 2014 International Concert Artist Competition winner, gave concerts and master classes throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico
We hired new editors to the helm of Soundboard and Soundboard Scholar, who are committed to getting you the highest quality guitar-related content on a regular basis
We want to continue this important work with your partnership. Current members can renew membership with GFA today to guarantee one more year at the current prices, or choose to renew five years of membership locked in at the current prices. Our membership prices will increase on September 1, 2015 to:
Regular Membership: $60/year
Student Membership: $45/year
E-Only Membership: $40/year (staying the same!)
University/Library Membership: $75/year
*International shipping fees will remain the same ($14 for Canadian Members and $25 for all other International Members)
We will also continue bringing you fantastic membership discounts from Mel Bay, GSP, Acoustic Guitar/Classical Guitar Magazine, Clarion Insurance, GSI, Doberman-Yppan, Colorado Cases, Tempo Cases, and XGuitars.
Thank you for sharing our commitment to the art of classical guitar, and thank you for your support of Guitar Foundation of America.
