2015 GFA Competition Results

The Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition (ICAC) and International Youth Competition (IYC) took place from June 23-28, 2015 in Oklahoma City, OK.
Competitors from across the globe traveled to the campus of Oklahoma City University to compete for the prestigious ICAC 1st Prize of a 50-city North American concert tour, along with recordings with Naxos and GHA Records, a Mel Bay publication, and various prizes from Augustine, D’Addario, Savarez, Editions Orphee, GSP, and Kling-on Products. Generous cash prizes were awarded to the winners in all divisions.
The preliminary round jury of the International Concert Artist Competition included Matthew Dunne, Dimitri Illarionov, Ewa Jabłczyńska, Dimitris Kotronakis, and Dariusz Kupiński. Sérgio Assad, Amanda Cook, Artyom Dervoed, Mark Eden, Pavel Steidl, Otto Tolonen, and Xuefei Yang judged the semifinal and final rounds of the competition. ICAC Competitors performed this year’s set piece, Fanfare Studies by Donald Crockett in the preliminary and final rounds of the competition, and played the required piece, Second Sonata on Shakespearean Characters (Royal Winter Music): Sir Andrew Aguecheek by Hans Werner Henze, in the semifinals along with their free choice program.
Through the support of the Augustine Foundation and Oklahoma City University, the final rounds of all the competitions were streamed live. The International Concert Artist Competition results were:
1st Place - Thibaut Garcia (France)
2nd Place - Armen Doneyan (France)
3rd Place - Andras Csaki (Hungary)
4th Place - Chiawei Lin (Taiwan)
The International Youth Competition results were:
1st Place - Hao Yang (China)
2nd Place - José Daniel Salceda Velasco (Mexico)
3rd Place - Audra Vigil (U.S.A.)
4th Place - Thanapot Lerttham (Thailand)
1st Place - Sedona Farber (U.S.A.)
2nd Place - Nadja Jankovic (Montenegro)
3rd Place - Shilong Fan (China)
4th Place - Sebastian Robles (Canada)
The 2016 GFA Convention and Competition will be held in Denver, CO from June 20-25, 2016. Both competitions will take place during this time. The required piece for the 2016 GFA International Concert Artist Competition is "El sueño de la razón produce monstruos" from Caprichos de Goya by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
