The Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) is the world’s leading classical guitar organization, promoting excellence in performance, literature, research, and education of the classical guitar. The organization publishes a quarterly magazine, Soundboard, along with its peer-reviewed counterpart, Soundboard Scholar, organizes regional symposia in cities across the country, promotes education and research in the field, and hosts an annual Convention and Competition each summer. In 2016 GFA will host its convention at the Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado. This event brings together Approximately 600 classical guitar masters and enthusiasts from all over the world, including some of the most elite artists and performers.
The five-day convention includes three concerts per day, a wide array of lectures, hands-on workshops, masterclasses and private lessons, an extensive and comprehensive vendor exposition and luthier showcase, Hall of Fame awards ceremony, and a Guitar Orchestra, open to all attendees. The GFA convention is also home to the most sought-after classical guitar competition in the world. The winner of the GFA International Concert Artist Competition is awarded an international tour representing GFA, along with a cash price, recording contract, and publishing contract. This competition showcases some of the best new artists in the classical guitar world.
The 2016 GFA Convention and Competition will be hosted by Alex Komodore, guitar professor at MSU and noted performer. He has received praise for multiple CD and live performances as well as excellence in teaching.
The 2016 artist lineup will be released summer of 2015.
