This year’s featured guest performing ensemble will be The Minneapolis Guitar Quartet along with
performances by participating ensembles as well as a performance by the 2016 MAGEF Guitar Orchestra
performing works by James McGuire and Andrew Bergeron. Guest conductor Dr. Libor Ondras will
conduct the ensemble.  This years MAGEF again will be a truly wonderful and memorable event.

The event will be held at the historic St Cecilia Music Center and on the campus of Grand Rapids
Community College April 1-3, 2016, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The Mid-America Guitar Ensemble
Festival is an annual event hosted by different colleges and universities throughout the region. It was
established in 1991 to foster camaraderie and pedagogical exchanges between classical guitar teachers and
students; to provide performance and learning opportunities for student ensembles; and to contribute to the
overall artistic and cultural enrichment of classical guitar ensemble audiences. The Festival also has worked
to increase the ensemble repertoire by commissioning pieces for the festival orchestra. The first festival
was hosted by Millikin University in Decatur, IL, and since has been sponsored by schools in Illinois,
Missouri, Michigan, and Indiana. Guest artists have included such renowned groups as the Los Angeles
Guitar Quartet, the Assad Duo, Los Romeros, and Duo Melis. The weekend will consist of performances
by participating guitar ensembles, masterclasses, and a concert by this year’s guest artists, the Minneapolis
Guitar Quartet. The festival guitar orchestra will perform new works by James McGuire and Andrew
Bergeron.
