22nd Annual Long Island Guitar Festival at LIU Post, April 2 -6, 2014
Brookville, N.Y. – The Music Department of the School of Visual and Performing Arts
at LIU Post is pleased to announce the 22nd Annual Long Island Guitar Festival -
Eclectic & International on April 2 - 6, 2014 at Tilles Center’s Hillwood Recital Hall.
The festival will be an Eclectic & International year featuring workshops master
classes and concerts including the Vida Guitar Quartet from England, guitarist,
lutenist and composer Frederic Hand, South African guitarist Derek Gripper
(featuring music of the great Kora player Toumani Diabate), French guitar
innovator Thibault Cauvin and Polish-born American guitarist Paul Cesarczyk.
We are very pleased to announce our first Long Island Guitar Festival Tri-State
High School Classical Guitar Competition
The Guitar Festival also includes workshops on writing and arranging for schools
and community guitar ensemble with Alan Hirsh, The Shearer Method - A New
Multi-Media Method Approach to Learning the Guitar with Thomas Kikta and
The Festival will feature high school guitar ensemble concerts including students
from Bishop McGuinness High School in North Carolina, Susan E. Wagner Guitar
Ensemble and Brentwood High School. Also scheduled is a master class with Cellist
Maureen Hynes on the cello suites of J.S. Bach and a workshop in electric guitar
techniques with James Erickson. The annual Emerging Artist Series will feature
Yale University doctoral student Koh Kazama.
The Long Island Guitar Festival, directed by Harris Becker, is an annual international
festival presented by the Department of Music, in the School of Visual and
Performing Arts, at LIU Post. Festival sponsors include the D’Addario Foundation for
the Performing Arts, the Augustine Foundation, Savarez, Sam Ash, Murphy’s Music,
and LIU’s John P. McGrath Fund and dedicated individuals. The festival represents
the ongoing commitment of LIU to reach out to the artistic community and continue
an established tradition of excellence in guitar performance and pedagogy.
Guitar Festival attendees can purchase an All-Event Pass for $150 (for all events
not including the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet) or buy tickets for individual events
with discounts available for members of guitar societies, students and senior
citizens. Concert tickets are $25 per person ($20 for students and seniors). The High
School Ensemble Concerts tickets are $15 ($10 for students and seniors). Tickets
to participate in the Emerging Artist Electric Guitar Techniques workshop cost $15.
Tickets are $10 each for other master classes (as auditor).
