Cleveland Classical Guitar Society Presents Ancient Melodies, Modern Echoes

The Cleveland Classical Guitar Society presents soprano Estelí Gomez and guitarist Colin Davin in a unique concert, Ancient Melodies, Modern Echoes.

The concert experience connects the music of Renaissance composer John Dowland to contemporary music, including works by Benjamin Britten and a new work by 2013 Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw, who will be in attendance. Estelí Gomez’ career spans the early and contemporary music worlds and includes first prize in the Canticum Gaudium Competition in Poland and a Juno nomination. Ms. Gomez, soprano and Caroline Shaw as singer/composer for Roomful of Teeth won a 2014 Grammy for best Chamber/Small Ensemble Performance for their debut album. Hear Estelí Gomez' beautiful singing and Ms. Shaw's new composition for voice and guitar at the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society International Series concert. Cleveland native Colin Davin's performances and teaching have taken him from Alice Tully Hall to the Aspen Music Festival to Afghanistan. The concert will be held on February 22, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at Plymouth Church UCC in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

This Cleveland Classical Guitar Society’s International Series concert is made possible through the support of the Ohio Arts Council and Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.

The Cleveland Classical Guitar Society brings the world’s finest international classical guitar performers to Cleveland. The final concert of the 2013 - 2014 season is Grammy-winning Scottish guitarist David Russell on March 29.

In addition, the CCGS’ educational outreach initiative offers ongoing music classes to 100 students in grades 7-12 in Cleveland and Akron.
