Donate to the GFA

The Guitar Foundation of America strives to support the classical guitar, its music, players and composers worldwide. Services we provide to the community include the production of Soundboard magazine, maintaining a website which provides a wealth of resources and connections, the underwriting of our annual convention and competition, the development and expansion of our international archives, and most recently, an ambitious attempt to improve and expand quality pre-college guitar programs in public schools.

Your support of the GFA, in any amount, is greatly appreciated. All donors are recognized in Soundboard and on the website, and all donations are 100% tax deductible.

In addition to considering a cash donation, you may also wish to consider:

  • Donating stocks to GFA. This helps you avoid paying capital gains, and yet you are able to make a deduction based on the full value of the stock. Please contact our Treasurer to discuss this option.
  • Transferring funds from IRA. In 2006 and 2007, those over 70.5 years of age can make IRA transfers straight to a charitable organization without generating taxable income. As you may know, people who have reached this age must make minimum withdrawals from their conventional IRAs. The actual gift is not tax deductible, but you will not have to pay the income taxes on the withdrawal, which, otherwise, you would. Please contact our Treasurer to discuss this option.
  • Donating materials for our Archives. If you have an extensive collection or any particularly valuable items, our Archives could be the perfect home for your precious materials. Please contact our President to discuss this option.
  • Donating Instruments. We accept donations of nylon-string classical guitars on a case-by-case basis with estimated value of $1000 and above. If you have an instrument that does not meet these criteria, we recommend that you contact a school near you for donation. Please contact our Development Director, to discuss this option.
