Not 365 days so but "only" (and precisely) 324 days since Traveling Sonata has been premiered on April 11th, 2008 (true though). Ola Carles !
ola Roland;
Es un placer saludarte, amigo y admirado Roland.
Es el mio, amigo del Pais Basco !
My question is about your compositions. Wy dont you compose for guitar and other instruments? (except strings quartet) , and, do you thing in write for other ensembles or instruments without guitar.
You're right, Carles, I should write for other instruments (+ guitar) also. Why do I rarely write for different formations ? Just cause any composer's goal is to have his music performed by as many interpreters as possible. And it came to my mind that since - let's be honest - I'm not quite famous in other fields than guitar's, it would then require a much bigger time to make these poli-instrumental pieces well known and performed around. That's the main reason. I must recognize it's probably not an excellent reason (mostly because guitarists could help me bringing this music up to non-guitarists) but it's the explanation that comes straight to my mind. This being said, I would really love to write more for other instruments, no question. NB/ I recently wrote Traveling Sonata, a 3 movements & 17mn-long piece (!) for flute and guitar which has been premiered by the Arc Duo from New York (will be published in about one year from now). So it's not "nothing", my friend :). Ok, I'll follow your kind advice in the future anyway. So thanks for this positive critic.
Second item. In your version for strings from your Tango in Skaï, you say that your angry because some guitarists dont play your pieces with good atention and looking your indications.... Are you angry still??? , oopss...
Don't misunderstand me, Carles. So, once for all, let me tell you something about the many indications in my music. I'm very meticulous in that, this is 100% true. And if I'm so, it's just because it seems to be nothing but my "duty" to publish a piece with all the details belated to it, making the piece reflecting my exact thoughts and feelings on the exact day I leave it to the publisher. Then - and it's important to mention - I do not expect people to play my music excatly the way it was on that very last day after re-reading its ultimate proof but, at least, that they show me they paid a tiny attention to these indications at least. And do you want to know my biggest expectation from interpreters ? Maybe I will surprise you and many friends of the forum : my biggest expectation would be to hear my music played even quite differently than my original version, either in term of dynamics, tempos or even fingerings ! But it should be definitely played in a very convinced way then (therefore in a very convincing way as well !). So that's it. I love to get surprised by unexpected interpretations of my music actually. And it occures sometimes I must say. The only thing is about taste though, goût, as French say. And the Main question stays the same, ever : but what is taste then ? :).
Un abrazo muy fuerte.
Y gracias por tus preguntas (y tu "critica" también porsupuesto !)
Roland
Un gran abrazo.
