Classical Mandolin Society of America announces a pre-convention classical guitar workshop - The Poised Guitarist - led by René Izquierdo, full-time faculty member of the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. René is known for preparing professional guitarists and music educators for several years now. In addition to teaching, he has been bringing world-class guitarists to his local community as well as continuing a performing career- both as a soloist and a chamber musician in the U.S. and Internationally.
The Classical Mandolin Society of America's convention runs from October 14-18 in Austin, TX, with a pre-convention workshops beginning the evening of October 13 and throughout the day on October 14th. During subsequent days, workshops include a guitar track among other interesting topic areas.
The biggest draw for the convention is the En Masse Orchestra - a group of 100+ musicians performing on guitar, bass and various mandolin family instruments. Truly a unique opportunity for ensemble players. Other opportunities include Open-Mic performances, late night jamming and concerts including our featured performers - René Izquierdo on guitar, Elina Chekan on guitar, Carlo Aonzo on mandolin, Paul Glasse on jazz mandolin.
