From January 14 - 17, 2016 the International Guitar Competition Maurizio Biasini (cciMB) & Festival will be held at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM - 50 Oak St, San Francisco, CA 94102). Organized to promote the musical career of talented young guitarists, the cciMB alternates biennially between centers of great musical tradition: Bologna, Italy (2011), Basel, Switzerland (2013) and San Francisco, USA. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of $ 12’000, an invitation to perform a recital in Switzerland (Rising Stars series of the Allgemeine Musikgesellschaft Basel, 2017/2018) as well as other concerts in Italy (Bologna) and France (Festival International de Guitare de Paris, 2016). Through an online video audition procedure, 12 semifinalists will be selected by an international Jury of renowned guitarists and musicians: David Tanenbaum (USA), Stephan Schmidt (CH), Gérard Abiton (F), Marco Vinicio Carnicelli, Alberto Martelli and Walter Zanetti (I). In the final round the three finalists will play a guitar concerto accompanied by orchestra and premiere the commissioned composition by Sergio Assad, Imbricatta. Thursday, January 14: Opening concert with New Music Ensemble (Nicole Paiement, conductor; Marc Teicholz and Cristobal Selame soloists) and Conservatory Guitar Ensemble (David Tanenbaum, conductor)
Friday, January 15: Solo recital by 2013 cciMB winner Emanuele Buono
Saturday, January 16: Concert by the cciMB 2016 jurors Gérard Abiton, Marco Vinicio Carnicelli, Stephan Schmidt and Walter Zanetti
Sunday, January 17: Final round with orchestra directed by Scott Sandmeier. The San Francisco Conservatory of Music will provide the life transmission of the concert in direct streaming.
