On June 9, 2013, the Music Program in the Department of Fine and
Performing Arts of St. Louis University will host and sponsor a special
Commemorative Master Class to be conducted by the legendary American
classical guitarist Christopher Parkening. This class is co-presented in
cooperation with the St. Louis Classical Guitar Society in its day-long cele-
bration of the 50th Anniversary of its founding on June 9, 1963, with Mr.
Parkening also serving as Honorary Chair of its 50th Anniversary Committee.
The Class will be held in University Theater at Xavier Hall on the St. Louis
University campus, 221 N. Grand Boulevard, St. Louis, Missouri 63103, from
1:00 - 3:00 pm. Admission will be $20 for adults and families, $5 for individual
pre-college students. Three performance spots are open to competitive audition.
Performance applicants should submit three unedited pieces of contrasting styles by 11:00 pm CST May 5, 2013, on the Guitar Society’s website at
www.GuitarStLouis.net. The Guitar Society will also be joined by Mr. Parkening
at its 50th Anniversary Commemorative Dinner to be held at the Missouri
Athletic Club, 405 Washington Ave, St. Louis, MO, 63102, beginning at 5:30 pm.
Attendance is $75 per person, which includes admission to the master class. For
