Festival "Prospectives XXIIè Siècle" (Perspec- tives 21st Century)

Posted By Connie Sheu, Sunday, February 19, 2012
The festival "Prospectives XXIIè Siècle" (Perspec- tives 21st Century) will begin this musical journey in several concert halls near Perpignan next month, March, with a concert of four Concertos for guitar and orchestra written by the composer- guitarist Jaume Torrent.
Previously Jaume Torrent has performed as a soloist on several occasions in the Festival "Aujourd'hui Músicas" (Music of Today) in Perpignan, interpreting works by Xavier Benguerel and Jordi Cervelló. On this occasion Jaume Torrent was invited to perform 4 of his own works by Daniel Tosi, Director of the Festival. Maestro Tosi is also a noted conductor and an enthusiastic proponent of the music of living Catalan composers.

The unique idea of presenting four Concertos for guitar and orchestra in two concerts (next March 2 and 11 in Sainte Marie and Pontiella respectively), with the composer himself as soloist, is a project which probably has never been done before (or at least in the history of the guitar).
