Brian Jeffery was educated at the King's School, Canterbury,
England, and at the University of Oxford,
where he took a first class degree in Modern Languages. He holds a
doctorate from the University of St Andrews and a further degree in musicology
from the University of Oxford.
He taught at St Andrews and at UC Berkeley, and in 1997 was Visiting
Professor of Musicology at the
University of Florida at Tallahassee. He has travelled extensively in the
USA and in Mexico, and founded Tecla Editions which publishes the complete
works for guitar of Sor and the complete works of Giuliani as well as many
other works for guitar, voice, and various instruments, with particular
importance given to the historical and musical context of each work. He
is the author of the biography "Fernando Sor, Composer and Guitarist" and is currently finishing a new book on the songs of the war
in Spain 1808-1814.
